I want to tell you about a lovely romantic spot in a place you might not expect. When folks think about exciting romantic places they think of Rome, Paris, New York or some other big exotic destinations, but one of the most romantic weekends I ever spent was in the heart of America; Kansas City, Missouri.
Kansas City has this amazing shopping district called The Plaza and from Thanksgiving until New Years the Plaza is ablaze with light. All the buildings are all outlined with lights and horse-drawn carriages draw you through the beautiful streets. Dozens of department stores and specialty shops are filled to the brim with amazing items and restaurants, theaters and upscale bars guarantee no lack of entertainment.
The Nelson-Atkins Art Museum is 5 minutes away and 10 minutes towards downtown brings you to Crown Center where the adventurous can have a moonlit ice skate amid fairy-lit trees. The Ritz-Carlton on the Plaza offers beautiful accommodation and marvelous views of the Plaza lights. For a luxurious dining experience the Raphael Hotel has a restaurant that is exquisite. Music lovers can find live venues all over the city.
Theaters downtown bring Broadway road shows of popular plays and musicals and A-list musicians play many of the fine concert venues. Though Kansas City might not rank high in exotic, it offers all the romance and entertainment of more traditional romantic getaways without the crowds and high prices that those other cities include. |
